Lets Fall For Cotton!

Of course it's a sew-a-long that pulls me from the woodwork.
I've decided to join the awesome Fall for Cotton sew-a-long that Tasha and Rochelle are hosting, and I'm super excited for it!
The premise is to create a fall weather outfit from the 20's-70's out of 100% cotton. I figured I needed more 100% cotton garments in my closet, so this was right up my alley.

Feeling I needed some practicality in my life, I've decided to make a blouse, and a pair of trousers.

The blouse will be made from Simplicity 1692 in view B. I'll be using polka this blue and white fabric I bought at a school fabric sale a year ago.

The trousers will be modified from a shorts pattern my friend drafted for me. They'll be navy blue twill.
As better seen in this photo

I sought inspiration from the 1940's land girls and farmerettes (much like Rochelle and Tasha did!), and I'm sure I can properly juggle school and sewing time to create this by the deadline.

I wish every one who's doing this sew a long good luck! This is my first one I'm doing within the date, so I'm excited!!

Could you all could be so kind, as to vote for Colette Patterns in the American Made contest? You just sign up to the Martha Stewart site, and vote until the 22nd.

Could someone kindly point me into the direction of some simple HTML tutorials. My blog is desperately in need of a makeover.

#Damn, I am classy

Okay, here's a bit of back story. I absolutely loathe (d) taking photos of myself. Well, in what I dub 'normal' clothes. If any of you see me at a convention, I'm happily posing in costume, and taking silly photos with friends. Outside the convention, I'm hiding from the camera, and burrowing into a jacket.

I made a little 'resolution' for myself at the start of the year, to boost my confidence more.

So I started with this photo. It was from a party a friend of a friend was having, and it went over very well. This made me happy, and I felt a little better about sharing what I wore.

On Valentines Day, I took a photo of my ensemble in a bathroom on my campus, and tagged it with '#damniamclassy' on instagram (tinyangrycrafts), and I've been doing so ever since. (give or take how I'm feeling/if I'm not chained to the sewing machine)

It helps me see what I've warn, what items I tend to favor over others (those blue pants, anyone?), and it's making me feel better about myself, which is super important.

Have any of you taken strides in being more self confident?

Have a Dapper Day.

After an entire year of wishing and waiting, I finally made a simple dream of mine come true, attending my first Dapper Day. With the help of my super sweet friend Malina, I got to visit the Happiest Place on Earth on February 24th dressed in awesome hand-sewn finery.

Dapper Day 1

One of the first things I did, after squeeing with some new acquaintances was jump on the carousel, and take myspace shots of myself.

Dapper Day 2
(Check that poofy sleeve, that was so much fun to sew!)

Dapper Day 3

Dapper Day 4

Our group grew, and I gained a 'Happy Birthday' button from Malina. She figured I needed extra day brightening. and boy was hearing 'Happy Birthday' from castmembers, and complete strangers enough to leave a smile plastered on my face the rest of the day.

Dapper Day 5

Dapper Day 6

We skipped over to Disney's California Adventure, and I was happily surprised! Last times I was there was 2 weeks after the park opened for my birthday, and for Grad Nite. It has certainly changed! It looks more like 1930's/40's LA, and that is a-ok in my book!

Dapper Day 7

WE GOT A PICTURE WITH GOOFY!!! I haven't gotten a photo with a character in ages, so it made me super happy.

Dapper Day 9

Now I convinced my darling cosplay friends to join me in these shenanigans, and they did! First thing Aisha and I did after flailing, is try to get a photo with the ducks, who rudely ran off. So of course, in true Duck couple fashion, we pouted.

Dapper Day 10

And myself with Aisha and Lexi. We went as Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck.

I had an absolute blast! I'm super thankful to Malina for the lovely adventures, and I can't wait till the Fall event.

Spoils of war

And here are my spoils of the day. Only one thing purchased  and that's my silhouette. Ever since my very first trip to Disneyland, I would get a silhouette done. This is my third. (now I think I should make a post with my silhouette in the future)

Have any of you gone to an event where you had an excuse to dress fancy?

PS- those of you who follow me on google reader, remember that it'll be going away in July, and I have a bloglovin. There's a nifty follow button on the sidebar.
