I see Wonderful Things

Being very close to Balboa Park has a lot of perks, lots of gorgeous gardens and museums with amazing exhibits are definitely high on that list.
Upon hearing about the King Tut exhibit at the San Diego Natural History museum, I know I wanted to hit it up after the semester ended. So yesterday, I met up with Janey of Atomic Redhead, and her husband Patrick to take a little trip back in time to view one of the most famous discoveries of the past century.

Now, the exhibit was made up of very faithful restorations, which I was extremely impressed by. The amount of excruciating detail went into making every piece look exactly like the original is utterly astounding. It made me want to travel to Egypt to see the originals more and more.

After looking at more exhibits at the museum, we meandered about to get some photos for our blogs. Some of which resulted in some fun lady adventurer poses.

I had such a blast hanging with Janey. I'm grateful for overcoming my shyness and meeting her through blogging. It's always fun connecting with someone you have so much in common with, and having a chance to hang with them is always great!
I can't wait to hang with her again!

Have any of you gone to your local museums lately? What exhibits did you see?

Be sure to check out Janeys post about the day!

The Hotel Del

On Tuesday Janey of Atomic Redhead and I popped to a few more vintage shops before headed to one of my citys most famous landmarks, The Hotel Del Coronado.

Hotel Del
(yes this is a shot from a parking lot, what of it?)

This hotel has had a quite a history in its many years. It's hosted presidents, royalty, famous authors, and the Hollywood elite. Due to its proximity to North Island Naval Air Station, it was utilized during WWII as housing. And those of you who are fans of Marilyn Monroe, yes, this is the 'Seminole Ritz' from Some Like it Hot.

Exterior

We had a great time exploring the grounds of this hotel. Popping in an out of the shops, looking at the victory garden on the grounds, and getting ice cream before jumping in a photo booth.

Janey

Have any of you stayed at the Hotel Del before?

Be sure to read Janeys post as well!

Hanging in Old Town

On Monday I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Janey of Atomic Redhead.
We stopped off to Ocean Beach to visit a few shops, then got some In n Out before headed to Old Town San Diego.

Colorado House

I remembered Janeys love of Western things, so I figured this would be right up her alley. Needless to say, we both enjoyed ourselves.

Then we sat down a bit with churros, talked about Disneyland, and plotted more adventures for the next day.

It was a blast playing tour guide at one of my favorite places, And we had a couple more days of adventuring as well. Be sure to read Janeys post as well!

Spring Dapper Day 2014

On February 23rd, I attended my 3rd Dapper Day. (yes I went to last falls, I just never blogged about it. Oops.)

It was an interesting day all around. It was very packed that day, and I got a bit overwhelmed with the crowds, so I stole a friend and broke away quite a lot.

Dress

I acquired some yellow synthetic from a friend and made the dress as per the instructions, with the exception of shortening the bodice, skirt, and sleeves. (I'm fairly short). The pattern is Advance 9925.

Erin and I

I ran off with my sweet friend Erin for a bit to get some air, and to hop on the monorail, something I hadn't done in about 20 years.

On a Vespa

We ran around the Grand Californian for a bit, contemplated buying a Vespa and did some shopping.

Aimee and I

I ran into my friends Aimee and Jet and snagged pictures with them.

Acquisitions

Then we all piled in the car and headed back home. I only made one purchase from the Dapper Day boutiques, and it's those gloves. They are nice creme color, with pale yellow piping, and were made in West Germany!
I also snagged a parasol from New Orleans square, and was gifted a tie and pocket square from a sweet acquaintance from SDCC.

I can't wait for the next time I hit up Disney -cough- next week -cough-, and I totally can't wait for my next Dapper Day.

Have a Dapper Day.

After an entire year of wishing and waiting, I finally made a simple dream of mine come true, attending my first Dapper Day. With the help of my super sweet friend Malina, I got to visit the Happiest Place on Earth on February 24th dressed in awesome hand-sewn finery.

Dapper Day 1

One of the first things I did, after squeeing with some new acquaintances was jump on the carousel, and take myspace shots of myself.

Dapper Day 2
(Check that poofy sleeve, that was so much fun to sew!)

Dapper Day 3

Dapper Day 4

Our group grew, and I gained a 'Happy Birthday' button from Malina. She figured I needed extra day brightening. and boy was hearing 'Happy Birthday' from castmembers, and complete strangers enough to leave a smile plastered on my face the rest of the day.

Dapper Day 5

Dapper Day 6

We skipped over to Disney's California Adventure, and I was happily surprised! Last times I was there was 2 weeks after the park opened for my birthday, and for Grad Nite. It has certainly changed! It looks more like 1930's/40's LA, and that is a-ok in my book!

Dapper Day 7

WE GOT A PICTURE WITH GOOFY!!! I haven't gotten a photo with a character in ages, so it made me super happy.

Dapper Day 9

Now I convinced my darling cosplay friends to join me in these shenanigans, and they did! First thing Aisha and I did after flailing, is try to get a photo with the ducks, who rudely ran off. So of course, in true Duck couple fashion, we pouted.

Dapper Day 10

And myself with Aisha and Lexi. We went as Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck.

I had an absolute blast! I'm super thankful to Malina for the lovely adventures, and I can't wait till the Fall event.

Spoils of war

And here are my spoils of the day. Only one thing purchased  and that's my silhouette. Ever since my very first trip to Disneyland, I would get a silhouette done. This is my third. (now I think I should make a post with my silhouette in the future)

Have any of you gone to an event where you had an excuse to dress fancy?

PS- those of you who follow me on google reader, remember that it'll be going away in July, and I have a bloglovin. There's a nifty follow button on the sidebar.

Zoo Adventures

Last Thursday I decided to take a bit of 'me' time, and visit our fantastic zoo. It's one of my favorite places to go, and I decided to share a few photos with you. Maybe one day, I'll do a proper zoo 'tour' for you all.

Before getting to the zoo, I bussed over to Balboa Park and stopped at the rose garden for a bit. It was great to see all the beautiful flowers in bloom.

Here's a bit of the architecture of Balboa Park. I've forgotten which building this is, sadly. (shame on me)

One of the first sights you see upon entering the zoo, (Ack, sorry for not taking a picture of the 'World Famous sign' I was too busy skipping to the entrance)are the flamingos. Well, you usually smell them before anything else.

I finally got to see the baby hippo! Well, sort of. People kept crowding the glass, making it difficult, but, her mother was teaching her to swim, and it was the most adorable thing ever.

Skipping along some, to our Elephant exhibit. Which gives me some serious Jurassic Park vibes.

Every time my sister and I go to the exhibit, we hum the theme song. xD

Every time the lions are out, it's always difficult to get a good shot of them. Some lady kept her baby's stroller in the direct line of the lions sight, despite me saying 'excuse me' multiple times =\ Ah well, next time.

Hello there gorgeous male lion. With your fluffy mane. ; w;

Moving along in my adventure, I came across some Gerenuk practicing head-butting. I seriously stood and watched them for about 5 minutes.

Then the little DikDik wanted to get in on the action, and elicited a very loud 'AWWW' from me.

I took a few more photos, but as it was a very bright day, the sun washed them out. Time to read my camera manual...again.

Have any of you been to your local zoo lately?

Sorry for being quiet, Final's are slowly creeping up on me ><

Take Care, and Happy Crafting.
