Little bits of happy

School is taking over everything, you guys!
But I'm doing good with small things to keep me happy, while I work on bigger projects.

For the longest time I wanted to cross-stitch, yet was intimidated by it. I mean, I can embroider fairly well, but cross-stitch seemed like a totally new territory. After hearing a bit of buzz from fellow crafters, I decided to dive in.

Yesterday I bought some 11 count Aida fabric, and scoured the internet for a simple pattern.

cross-stitch heart

I came up with a simple heart using a pattern from about.com My grandma looked at it, and asked 'How long have you been doing this?' I replied "A few hours ago?"
I was linked to some videogame cross-stitch patterns, so I might try a few of those out! :3

Next on my small crafty agenda, a pink headband. Now I bet you're wondering, what's so special about a pink headband? Mine will have pompoms on it!

pom headband

It'll be a shell stitch edged band, with pompoms on it. The idea came across thanks to my friends, and our obsessing over accessories on the internet.

Last bit of happy will be something that will expand my blogging again. The fun reason I started this blog in the first place. The Knitting and Crochet blog week!

I wasn't successful in completing it last year, but I will try my darn-est for this year. So during that time, expect a full week of posts from me :3
If you have a knitting/crochet blog, and you'd like to participate, here's the link with the information. Knitting and Crochet Blog Week

Well I have some knitting to catch up on, as well as a Wolverine phone cozy to un-pick...again -sigh-

Take Care, and happy crafting.

  1. cute heart! :D I'm sure you're not intimidated by cross-stitching now, it's suuuper easy.

I'm intimidated by knitting and crocheting which you seem so used to doing.. it looks so hard so I've never tried :-\

  2. The cross stitch is looking great! The simple single-colour motifs have a simplicity and modernism about them that doesn't give itself to the tweeness or sense of slightly naff that more 'traditional' designs might, I think.

My first cross stitch attempt (the pocket mirror pouch) was on that twee side of things, but I think the simple shapes such as this heart have for more practical and decorative value in a modern home than full banner images of Forever friends and things like that.

of course, retro videogame images are sill (always) cool.
